Pacoima Film Media and Performing Arts Magnet was recognized by Board Member Kelly Gonez for improving student achievement and for providing high-level enrichment programs in the performing arts.

first I would like to recognize Pacoima Middle School's film media and Performing Arts Magnet we already know that they can be wonderful host for outstanding achievement in providing an enriching learning grants for all students the school has a film crew and a stage crew as well as the Pacoima singers and dancers and we actually all have the opportunity to hear from the singers at our July annual meeting they were the only group to receive a standing ovation really providing a well-rounded education for for Pacoima students and preparing them for College and Career additionally throughout the whole school Under principles of leadership go to socio-emotional learning including a school-wide commitment to restorative justice and Community circles I wish I had the chance to witness when I was when I was at the school so welcome and congratulations thank you thank you welcome everyone board members superintendent and staff from Northeastern LAUSD my name is Middle School this is my second as a principle but prior to that I've been a be here for 8 years grandma has always being a good schools I've been serving at and it has been serving this community for a long time and has a search history it has two original magnets computer science math magnet and thumb median Performing Arts Magnet and the district we have just recently started focusing on College and Career readiness nearest 12 years but at Pacoima and specially at the Performing Arts Magnet it has been going on for a long time just recently I received an email from a gentleman named Drew stemmler hero I detect, Junior High and stagecraft was one of my classes it was taught by mr. Malone I went on to have a career in the motion picture industry as a sound as I won many awards in the including Oscar and Emmys stagecraft sparked my interest in this Korean and was a fantastic experience for me I was in the class of 1967 so that just shows like how important this class was for him and just an example how weekend and Rich the life of a middle schoolers with meaningful programs you should see the body language of our students time they're full of confidence and enthusiasm and they run the show we have Pacoima singers dancers and players they are performing on the stage and students from our stage crew production group the ones who are behind the lights and sounds and they're the one who design and build the sets for these shows and our field crew student they have designated spot in this Auditorium and those students they film Irish oast then they added and then they sell the CDs and DVDs out to the parents that they create revenue for their own production these students work hard not only they have to do the rehearsals and performances at the same time they have to stay on top of the great and they handle everything just amazingly so you have seen our Pacoima singers so their performances and today they hijacked dr. Gibson I just so besides winning numerous competitions and being featured in many many views articles D students they perform at various singing festivals on over North America they have performed in water Cleveland Chicago Seattle and in Vancouver Canada and on top of that this group of students they do community service to get back to society as well they have raised $2,000 by selling their CDs and by performing at the fundraising concerts for hurricanes and earthquake victims students truly about the 21st century skills that we talked about. the problem-solving they do critical thinking they collaborate the communicate and as a principal I felt it's our moral obligation to provide the similar kind of enriching an engaging environment to all students and we have been working on it so we are infusing are traditional programs like school for advanced studies Everett group real learning academies with rigorous curriculum in first base electives educational field trips lunch club and targeted intervention and it's been showing some positive changes on a campus I was told 5 minutes so I kept my is improvement in our school climate increasing parent engagement we have decreased our currency rate from 45% to 10% in two years are there's a sharp decline in our school suspension rate we were at 102 days of suspension 2 years ago last 12 days and this year so for zero days of suspension and we have made significant gains in every classification rate as well so we moved from couple of years when we were at 14% to 27%. they said earlier than 4, has always been a good school but with the help of my amazing amazing team of teachers staff members parents or parents are always and the sport that I get from Local District and from a board member Gomez I'm sure that free will be one of the best school in the valley thank you and I think a superintendent of weather would like to speak and I wanted to buy the rest of the Pacoima Middle School team down to the front so we can take a photo I can present a certificate and then we have one more Board District 6 presentation you can come up and miss manga good afternoon you know I cannot talk what principle Garcia said except for we all know the research says when you infuse Arts into the curriculum look what you get back the data set show it and you have passionate students who want to come to school to learn to work as a team they learn to be disciplined and they're ready for the future I want to give a shout out not only to the fabulous teachers and the parents but two principal Garcia second-year principal and she's doing an awesome job because and then to a principal gosh I just want to mention that principle garcha Sybil garcha I just wanted to mention I want to mention that years ago I was the summer school principal here for 2 years and I can attest to the fact that you have the nicest the nicest kids here you really do you really
