8th Grade Culmination Requirements

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

  • Attendance for at least 4 semesters in a middle school or its equivalent.
  • Students need to earn 50 credits out of a possible 60 credits during their 8th grade year of middle school by passing 10 classes with a “D” or better out of their 12 classes for the school year. A student earns 5 credits for each class they pass with a grade of “D” or better.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE CULMINATION CEREMONY

  • Meet the requirements noted above.
  • Demonstration of satisfactory behavior. As an 8th grader a student may not have more than a total of 3 unsatisfactory marks (U’s) on the Final Spring Report Card. Students with more than a total of 3 U’s may receive a certificate, if eligible, but may not participate in the culmination ceremony.
  • Demonstration of satisfactory attendance. A student may not be absent more than 7 days during the school year. Students absent more than 7 days may receive a certificate, if eligible, but may not participate in the culmination ceremony.
  • Demonstration of respect for school rules. Frequent or serious violations of school rules may disqualify a student from participating in the culmination ceremony.
  • All school debts (textbooks/library books) must be paid in full and all detentions served prior to the culmination ceremony.
  • Return the culmination requirements letter (green) tear-off for 8th grade.

 

Please Note

  • If a student has earned less than 20 credits at the end of Fall Semester, they are NOT ELIGIBLE to earn a middle school certificate of completion or participate in the Culmination Ceremony.
  • If a student has earned 20 credits at the end of Fall Semester, they are still eligible to earn a middle school certificate of completion and participate in the Culmination Ceremony BUT they can NOT FAIL ANY classes at the end of Spring Semester.

 

All students must earn at least 50 credits at the end of Fall and Spring Semesters combined in order to be eligible to earn a middle school certificate of completion and participate in the Culmination Ceremony.
