hi I'm Dawn Greene and I'm the magnet coordinator for the Pacoima film media Performing Arts Magnet and I'm going to take you on a little Whirlwind tour of our campus and talk to you about our program all right, we are one of the  original magnets in the valley.  We started in 1979 . we're on a beautiful fenced-in campus it's wonderfully safe and Shady.  We are a WASC school, which is usually reserved for high schools , and is based on a rigorous program of accreditation. we of course have Chromebooks for everybody and because we have a computer science math magnet on the campus as well we have a lot of technology and all the classrooms many of our teachers are national board-certified we are also the only Performing Arts Magnet Middle School with a 700 seat theater one of the things that makes our magnet special. we have a lot  of equipment and experience and investment in our school we have a beautiful theater with hydraulic lighting system 176 lights that run on DMX we've got an audio system with Bose speakers and we consider this beautiful performance space a classroom all of our production groups use this a typical schedule for your sixth grader would be if they are identified GATE we have  an honors track or if their high-achieving. they would have English math history and science just like any school but at our Middle School they get four electives during the course of the year to have mix with our Film Production teacher 10 weeks with our musical theater teacher 10 weeks and stagecraft 10 weeks in the computer lab with our computer science teacher and every day they would have dance for their PE class How am I doing on time so far all right so then at the end of sixth grade we hold auditions and what another thing that I think our school makes our school different is is our philosophy towards the kids we want every child to be in a production group we want them to all be part of something rather than a competitive atmosphere we really strive for collaboration and creating leadership in the students most of our production groups are very much student-led and I'll explain that a little later but at the end of the year we hold that dishes make an audition for the singers but kind of singers you may have heard of them they've been on television they been in the news they travel all around the country Film Production they've won many awards we call them camera on fire stage crew as you saw a moment ago that either that is their classroom they learn to run all the lights they still do the light cues they run the sound they create the sets they build it in a workshop they stage-managed anything to do with the Productions of a show the kids run and build it dance production as they said before they have danced every day for PE but they also have an opportunity to be in a performance group that's dance and then there's drama production and we all know it from it all right so camera on fire I said they write direct and edit their own movies they have high definition cameras that use industry-standard editing software they won many awards mr. Hoskins our teacher for that class has a master's degree from USC and experience in the entertainment industry in Pacoima Dance Theater that's the dance production group they perform all over the town and the students collaborate to create their choreography they have guests choreographers come in they go to festivals and Miss Dolan has experienced  in New York on Broadway  Wingate teaches the drama program as well as the stage once again the kids learn to use all the equipment that adults would usually be running in a show and they work in that that we have a we have a classroom dedicated just for creating props and and building the sets and they went to use all the equipment there under the guidance of the teacher and there's she also teaches the drama class so they work hand-in-hand together to create the production the Pacoima singers you've seen them in the news like I said before they travel every year to another city this is them in Washington DC in front of the Lincoln Memorial they've been to Chicago they've been to Nashville they've been to Vancouver BC and  perform in festivals the choreography is created by the students they they have a lot of leadership in that class and they teach it to the other students the first they create then they teach it and built a lot of confidence and leadership  you can see some of their performances if you go to the Pacoima singers., you'll see that and you can check out our website as well this is our school and you may notice that's Ritchie Valens there in the corner so we've had we had people at our school for a long time now one of the advantages of being on a very large campus which we are is the fact that we have a lot of amenities that that we wouldn't otherwise as a small magnet we're about 250 students in our magnet and I'm the counselor for the students as well so 6th 7th and 8th grade I schedule their classes and I get to know them really well as to the teachers but we have a full-time nurse full-time librarian mental Services mental health services counselors we can refer to we've got free lunch you got tutoring after school we have beyond the bell and La Conservation Corps when programs after school at our school if their inter interested we have the California Cadet program I can explain more about and we keep the kids busy all day long lots of teachers have clubs and they keep their classrooms open at lunch time you've got Anime Kpop knitting any if your child is in the Lego when they want to start a Lego club, they could do that So that that's our school if you want more information you can contact the production teachers directly by email if you want to ask them questions about their program it more in-depth if you want to ask me more questions please contact me at my email which is down there DMG 3761 or you can call him I'm at school everyday now I know that's very unusual so thanks very much that's the end of my presentation did I keep it under 3 minutes I hope I did I dream of I did and I hope I hope you had a good time on your trip around her school thank you and
