I'm Dawn Greene and I'm the magnet coordinator at Pacoima middle school and I get to tell you about all the e Choice options you have at our beautiful School and we go right here's a picture of our campus from inside the quad we are a WASC  accredited  school, this is something that usually only high schools have it's the Western Alliance of Schools and Colleges we Gifted courses for students who are high-achieving or be identified we have Chromebooks for every student very safe campus and closed all the way around Smartboards in every classroom and we have many national board certified teachers there are three e Choice options at Pacoima Middle School we have the Pacoima Film Media Performing Arts Magnet we have our Computer Science Math Magnet and there's the Pacoima school for Advanced Studies I'm going to talk first about the Performing Arts Magnet here's some of the kids in action you can see the stage crew kids working on some set pieces you can see the singers performing you can see the dancers down there in the corner of one of our one of our shows and in their dance studio dancing although I might be hiding them a little bit I think all right here's a picture of our the heart and soul of our Performing Arts Magnet it's her Auditorium and we are the only Performing Arts Middle School with a 700 seat professional theater DMX lighting sound system this is a class for our students a typical schedule for the Performing Arts 6th grader I'm going to go to the next slide so you can see in Spanish as well they have English History Math and Science just like any Middle School we do have an honors track for giftted and high acheiving students we have dance as their PE class they can have dance every day and one of our two studios and then their elective starts in the sixth grade and they get four electives in the sixth grade they get 10 weeks with our Film Production teacher 10 weeks with our Musical Theater teacher 10 weeks with our Stagecraft and Drama teacher and ten weeks of a social justice class then at the end of the year we hold auditions and we hope that your child will want to be in one of our production groups in that the 7th and 8th grade pathway Pacoima singers we have Stage Crew Dance production and we have a Drama production group I'm their counselor and their classes so they get to know me all the way to the 8th grade and I  know their schedules all right Camera on Fire is our Film Production group they write edit direct their own films we use Sony high-def cameras they work with those we have them use Final Cut Pro for them to edit  their films with that's than industry standard they have a green screen room with mole lighting a true film experience with our teacher Mister Hoskins who is a USC film school graduate our Pacoima Dance Theater now they have dance for PE but if they want to they can also go into dance production a much more in-depth the desperate action students learn ballet modern Jazz hip-hop they tapped on their credit they learn to choreograph in all their classes the PE classes as well but in dance production they work with local choreographers. choreographers from versastyle come and work with the kids and and they go on field trips like dance and dialogue they do dance workshops and it's a wonderful experience for the kids Ms. Dolin  our dance production teacher worked in New York as a dancer so she gives them the whole the artistic experience our Drama and Stage Crew kids miss Wingate teaches both those classes drama of course the kids learn self-expression they play theater games they they improvisation we had one of our students write the spring show last year so she wrote the play it's a it's a nice experience for the kids and then the stagecraft stage crew teacher stage crew kids do everything that supports all the different performances they build the sets they make the props they learn to run the audio equipment they designed the lights and run the light show the stage-managed backstage I think that Sports the other performers is what we do to have a workshop where they can create the props and  the set pieces in the fall they  build  a haunted house and then they all the kids at school come to the haunted house I'm so if you have a child that likes the Arts but doesn't want to be in front of people that's a that's a nice option for them Here is our show choir and they perform all over the United States they take a big trip every year they've been to Washington d.c. they go to Vancouver Canada they've been to Chicago and Cleveland I think this year they're going to Nashville so I see some of them right there performing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and down below you can see them rehearsing in the classroom Facebook and you can see some video of them now I'm going to talk about her computer science math magnet typical 6th grade schedule in the computer science math magnet would be English History Math and Science and we also have a  track for high achieving students they can have the cadets we have the California Cadet program on our campus for anybody resident  School or magnet student whoever in the magnet is there PE class and in the sixth grade they get two electives they get semester of doing coding and programming and animation and game design and the create their own computer microchips they can program computer microchips
 20 weeks also of a Marine Science class has everything to do with the ocean and there are robots under the sea too so that's all fits together  in the seventh grade their seventh grade pathway they get two electives as well as English History Math and Science but they get 20 weeks that's one semester of EV3 Robotics and then 20 weeks of Vex robotics at two different kinds of Robotics that they can learn on the EV3's that were originally made by Lego and do different things VEX robotics what you see in this picture right here like our old erector sets in the kids and make those are different kind of programming then in the eighth grade honor math magnet students go into a drafting and Engineering pathway that's linked to Arleta High School's smart program we have flight simulators they do CAD programming to build Bridges and drafting they've got best robotics they've got electrical circuitry 3D printer anything to do with an engineering career is what we're interested in we use Project Lead the Way curriculum in modules for this class now our Pacoima  school for advanced studies that's is a class for Gifted and high acieving students the classes are in enriched with projects and Hands-On learning they have gate qualified teachers and it's the option for high-achieving kids in the resident school they usually for their elective have orchestra or band we have a wonderful Orchestra and band at our school which is an option for anybody .I encourage you to come take a tour of our school you can just call the school and it make arrangements with myself or Miss Osorio the sixth grade counselor we can have to walk you around too we have a large campus and some of the advantages of having a large campus is we have a full-time nurse on campus we have a full-time librarian we have counselors at every grade level so there's an 8th grade counselor counselor 7th grade counselor and 6th grade counselor with the magnet students we have tutoring after school we have our lunches are free right now like I said we have Chromebooks what's the California Cadets we've got after school programs beyond the bell and La Conservation Corps he works comes to worse with our students are the teachers at clubs in their classrooms. find the classrooms are open for anime club in K-pop Club in and we have robotics club and we have green club and a GSA Club LA is students run l.a. they meet after school and we have teachers and kids that finished marathon every year they work for the they work towards that they meet they run more and more each week until finally in the spring or marathon is there up to there finish it if you would like more information about our wonderful programs at the Pacoima Middle School please visit our website and you can always change the language on a website the bottom there's a button you can you can change it to Spanish or English or or Greek or Armenian whatever language you want there's Ms Osorio and that's her direct number and you can call her for more information about our school for advanced studies and I'm the magnet coordinator and that's my number and email and you can contact me if you have questions about the magnet program thank you very much for taking the time to listen to what's this and I hope to see you soon
